The A4J225 is a fast-acting Class J fuse — it opens very quickly on both overloads and short circuits, making it ideal for protecting circuits without motors or inductive loads. The AJT series (also Class J) is time-delay, designed to ride through the inrush current of motor starts without nuisance blowing. If your application involves motors or transformers, a time-delay Class J fuse is typically the right choice; for straight resistive or capacitor loads, the fast-acting A4J225 is appropriate.
The Gould brand was acquired by Mersen (formerly Ferraz Shawmur), and some A4J series fuses have been superseded by Mersen equivalents. The A4J225 is a Class J fuse with a 225A ampere rating, requiring a Class J fuse holder or fusible disconnect rated for at least 225A at 600V AC. Class J fuse dimensions are standardized (rejection-style), so a correctly rated Class J holder will accept this fuse.
