The AG60 is a Class G, 60A 480V time-delay fuse with a 100kA interrupting rating, manufactured by Gould (now Mersen/Ferraz Shawmut). Class G fuses feature a rejection-style ferrule body, so they require a Class G-rated fuse holder or fusible disconnect — they will not seat in Class H, K, or R holders. Common compatible holder families include Gould/Mersen GHB, GKB, and similar Class G panel-mount or in-line holders sized for 0–60A.

Direct functional replacements include the Mersen/Ferraz Shawmut ATQ60 (Class G time-delay) and equivalent Class G TD fuses from Littelfuse and Bussmann. Always verify your holder's voltage and amperage rating before substituting. Send us your holder or equipment model and we'll confirm the right fit.

Class G fuses have a smaller, rejection-style ferrule body with a specific diameter that prevents them from being installed in Class H or Class R holders, and vice versa. This rejection feature is a deliberate safety design. You must use a holder or fusible switch specifically rated for Class G fuses. Do not attempt to interchange fuse classes, even if the amperage and voltage ratings appear to match.

Gould's fuse product line was acquired by Ferraz Shawmut and is now marketed under the Mersen brand. The AG60 may still be available as new-old-stock, and direct equivalents exist in the current Mersen catalogue (such as the ATQ60). Northern Breaker Group specializes in obsolete and hard-to-find parts — contact us and we'll check current stock and confirm the best available replacement.

Motors and transformers draw a high inrush current at start-up — often 6–8× their full-load rating — for a brief period. A time-delay (TD) fuse like the AG60 is designed to tolerate this temporary overload without opening, while still providing fast, reliable protection against sustained overloads and short circuits up to 100kA. Using a fast-acting fuse in these applications often results in nuisance blowing during normal start-up.
