The AJT35 has a built-in time-delay element that tolerates short-duration overcurrents — such as motor starting inrush — without blowing, while still providing very fast, high-interrupting-capacity protection (200kA IR) during true fault conditions. A standard (fast-acting) Class J fuse would open on those same inrush currents, causing nuisance trips.
Yes. The AJT35's time-delay characteristic makes it an excellent choice for motor branch-circuit protection per the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). It accommodates motor starting inrush (typically 6–8× FLA) while protecting wiring and equipment from sustained overloads and short-circuit faults up to 200kA.
