The Square D BDA140451 is a 1-pole, 45A, 480V, 18kA plug-in molded-case circuit breaker from the BDA (BDA1) frame/series. As a 480V-rated industrial-grade breaker, it is intended for use in Square D panelboards and switchboards that accept BDA-frame plug-in breakers — typically commercial and light-industrial enclosures rather than residential loadcentres. It is not a QO or Homeline device and will not fit those residential panels.
Send us your panelboard model number and we'll confirm fit before you order.
No, they cannot be interchanged. The BDA frame is rated for 480V industrial and commercial panelboard applications, while QO/QOB breakers are rated for 120/240V residential loadcentres. The mounting footprints, voltage ratings, and interrupting capacities are different, so the two series are not cross-compatible.
The Square D BDA series is a legacy line and certain ratings can be difficult to source through standard distribution channels. Northern Breaker Group specialises in obsolete and hard-to-find breakers — contact us or request a quote and we'll advise on current stock or a compatible replacement if the exact unit is unavailable.
It depends on the available fault current (AFC) at the point of installation. The CEC requires that the breaker's interrupting rating equal or exceed the AFC of the circuit. At 18kA, this breaker is suitable for many commercial and light-industrial feeders, but you should verify the AFC with a short-circuit study. If your system fault current exceeds 18kA, a higher-rated frame will be required — our team can help identify the right option.
