Panel Compatibility

The Siemens BQD120 is a bolt-on breaker from Siemens' BQD series, rated 1-pole, 20A, 277V AC with a 14kA interrupting rating. Its 277V rating makes it suited for commercial and industrial panelboards — commonly used on 480Y/277V three-phase distribution systems — rather than standard residential loadcentres. It is compatible with Siemens/ITE panelboards and loadcentres that accept bolt-on BQD-frame breakers.

Not sure if this breaker fits your panel? Send us your panel model number and we'll confirm compatibility.

The BQD120 is rated for 277V AC — a voltage common on 480Y/277V commercial and industrial distribution systems — whereas the QP and BL series are designed for residential 120/240V loadcentres. The BQD series also uses a bolt-on mounting, providing a more secure mechanical connection suited to higher-demand commercial environments.

Siemens BQD-series breakers can be difficult to locate through general electrical suppliers. Northern Breaker Group specializes in obsolete and hard-to-find breakers — contact our Calgary, Edmonton, or Vancouver counters and we'll do our best to source the BQD120 for you, whether new, surplus, or reconditioned.

The BQD120's 14kA AIC (Ampere Interrupting Capacity) is suitable for many commercial branch-circuit applications on 480Y/277V systems; however, you must verify that the available fault current at the point of installation does not exceed 14kA. If your system's short-circuit current rating (SCCR) is higher, a breaker with a greater interrupting capacity may be required to meet Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) requirements. We recommend consulting your engineer or AHJ to confirm.
