Panel Compatibility

The Eaton BQL270 is a bolt-on style breaker from Eaton's BQL series, designed to install in compatible Eaton/Cutler-Hammer bolt-on panelboards and loadcentres that accept the BQL frame. It is not a plug-in (BR or CH type) breaker — confirm your panel accepts bolt-on breakers before ordering.

  • Poles: 2-Pole
  • Rating: 70A, 240V AC, 10kA AIR
  • Mount: Bolt-on

Not sure if the BQL270 fits your panel? Send us your panel model and we'll confirm compatibility before you order.

No, they are not interchangeable. The BQL series uses a bolt-on mounting mechanism, while the BR series uses a plug-in (clip-in) design. Even though both are Eaton products rated for similar voltages, they are designed for different panelboards. Installing a bolt-on breaker in a plug-in panel (or vice versa) is unsafe and non-compliant with Canadian Electrical Code requirements. Always verify your panel's breaker type before ordering.

It can be, provided the original breaker is also from the BQL frame and your panelboard accepts BQL bolt-on breakers. For older Cutler-Hammer or Westinghouse-era bolt-on panels, frame compatibility must be verified, as mounting footprints and bus stab configurations can differ across generations. Contact our team with your panel's model number and we'll confirm whether the BQL270 is the correct replacement.

The BQL270 is rated at 70A, 240V with a 10kA interrupting capacity, which meets CEC requirements for many residential sub-panel feeds and light commercial branch circuit applications where available fault current does not exceed 10kA. For services with higher available fault current, a breaker with a higher AIR (Ampere Interrupting Rating) will be required. We recommend confirming the fault current level at your installation point with a licensed electrician before specifying this breaker.
