The Square D FI36040 is an I-Line plug-in molded-case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 3P / 40A / 600V / 100kA. As part of Square D's FI-frame I-Line series, it is designed to plug into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards used in commercial and industrial installations — it is not intended for residential loadcentres.
Compatibility depends on your specific I-Line panelboard's busway configuration and frame rating. Send us your panelboard model and we'll confirm the fit.
The FI36040 uses Square D's I-Line plug-in mounting system, which is compatible with Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards designed for that bus configuration. Because I-Line panels come in multiple frame and ampacity ratings, we recommend sending us your panelboard model number so we can confirm the FI36040 is the correct fit for your installation.
The FI-frame I-Line series has largely been superseded by newer Square D MCCB families. The FI36040 may be difficult to source through standard distribution channels. Northern Breaker Group specialises in obsolete and hard-to-find breakers, so contact us for current stock availability and lead times.
Yes — a 600V-rated breaker like the FI36040 can be applied in lower-voltage systems such as 480V or 208/120V, provided all other ratings (amperage, interrupting capacity, number of poles) are appropriate for the circuit. Always verify with your engineer or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) that the breaker meets the full requirements of your specific application.
