Under Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) fill calculations, each conductor is allocated a set volume based on its wire gauge — for example, 14 AWG conductors require 2.0 cu. in. each and 12 AWG require 2.25 cu. in. each. This means you can typically accommodate 7 × 14 AWG or 6 × 12 AWG conductors (including device and clamp allowances). Always perform a full fill calculation per the CEC before wiring.
The SMB20163 accepts standard 4-inch octagon covers, mud rings, and fixture-mounting brackets designed for 4" octagon boxes. These are widely available from most electrical suppliers.
