The Federal Pioneer NBGF-40 is a bolt-on style breaker from the NBG / NBGF series, designed to fit Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok bolt-on panelboards used in residential and commercial installations. It is not a plug-in Stab-Lok breaker and is not interchangeable with Federal Pioneer's plug-in (stab-in) NB/NBF series.
Because Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok panels are no longer manufactured and many are aging or being replaced, compatibility can vary by panel generation and busbar design. Send us your panel model number and we'll confirm fitment before you order.
The NBGF-40 includes built-in 5mA Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, tripping the circuit when it detects leakage current as low as 5 milliamps — well within the threshold to prevent electrocution. The standard NB40 provides overcurrent and short-circuit protection only, with no ground fault sensing. The GFCI function makes the NBGF-40 suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor circuits, and other locations required by the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) to have ground fault protection.
Federal Pioneer (now part of Eaton Canada) has discontinued much of the Stab-Lok breaker line, making the NBGF series increasingly hard to find through standard distribution channels. Northern Breaker Group specialises in obsolete and hard-to-find breakers — including Federal Pioneer stock — and maintains inventory specifically for replacement and service work. Yes. The NBGF-40's 5mA trip sensitivity meets the ground fault protection requirements outlined in the Canadian Electrical Code for applicable locations (e.g., bathrooms, garages, outdoor receptacles, pool/spa equipment). Because it is a breaker-level GFCI, it protects the entire branch circuit — including all outlets and wiring downstream — without needing individual GFCI receptacles. Always verify with your local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) that breaker-level protection is acceptable for your specific installation.
