A Class K5 one-time fuse like the NRS30 is a non-renewable cartridge fuse: once it opens, the entire fuse must be replaced. Class RK5 fuses have the same voltage and current ratings but feature a rejection feature (notched ferrule) that prevents them from being installed in non-rejection holders, offering better short-circuit protection. While a Class K5 fuse will physically fit a standard (non-rejection) Class H/K holder, a Class RK5 fuse will not fit a non-rejection holder. Always verify your holder type before substituting. The Gould NRS series is considered a legacy/obsolete product line. Northern Breaker Group specializes in sourcing hard-to-find and obsolete fuses like the NRS30. Direct equivalents are typically 30A, 600V, Class K5 one-time cartridge fuses from other manufacturers (such as the Ferraz Shawmut/Mersen NRS30 or equivalent). The NRS30 is suitable for general-purpose overcurrent protection in industrial and commercial applications up to 600V AC, including branch-circuit protection, feeder circuits, motor branch circuits (as a branch-circuit fuse, not motor-rated), lighting panels, and control circuits. Its 10kA interrupting rating means it is designed for systems where available fault current does not exceed 10,000 amperes. For applications with higher available fault current, a higher interrupting-rated fuse (such as Class RK1 or Class J) should be considered.
