Panel Compatibility

The Eaton QBH240 is a QBH-series bolt-on breaker, designed to install in Eaton CH (Type-CH) panelboards that accept bolt-on style breakers. With a 2-pole, 40A, 240V, 10kA AIR rating, it is suitable for branch-circuit protection in both residential and light commercial CH panels. It is not interchangeable with Eaton's plug-on BR-series breakers — always verify your panel's bolt-on requirement before ordering. Not sure if the QBH240 fits your panel? Send us your panel model and we'll confirm compatibility.

The QBH series uses a bolt-on mounting style, which physically fastens the breaker to the panelboard bus bar with a screw. The BR series uses a plug-on (clip-on) connection. These two series are not interchangeable, so it's important to confirm which type your CH panel requires before purchasing. The QBH240 is strictly a bolt-on breaker.

In many cases, yes — the QBH series is the current Eaton offering that succeeds older Cutler-Hammer bolt-on CH-style breakers of the same frame. However, compatibility depends on your specific panel vintage and bus configuration. Northern Breaker Group specialises in obsolete and hard-to-find breakers, so if the QBH240 isn't the right fit, we can help source the correct replacement. Contact us with your panel details.

For most residential and light commercial branch circuits in Canada, a 10kA AIC (Ampere Interrupting Capacity) rating meets the requirements of CSA C22.1 (Canadian Electrical Code). However, if your service panel is fed by a larger transformer or is located close to the utility source — common in some commercial installations — a higher AIC rating may be required. Consult your electrician or authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) to confirm the fault current available at your panel.
