An autotransformer uses a single shared winding between the primary and secondary, making it more compact and efficient than an isolation transformer of the same KVA rating. However, it does not provide galvanic (electrical) isolation between the 600 V supply and the 480 V output. If your application requires isolated secondary circuits for safety or code compliance, an isolation transformer would be the appropriate choice. To determine whether 150 KVA is adequate, total the full-load KVA or KW demand of all 480 V equipment fed by the transformer, accounting for motor starting inrush (typically 6–8× full-load current). As a general rule, transformers are sized at 125% of continuous load per Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) requirements. The Rex RC150J-H is designed for industrial applications; however, enclosure type and environmental rating should be verified before installing in outdoor or wet locations. Standard dry-type autotransformers are typically rated for indoor, dry environments unless specified otherwise. If your installation site is outdoors or subject to moisture, confirm the unit's NEMA enclosure rating with our team before ordering to ensure CEC compliance and long-term reliability.
