Class RK5 and RK1 fuses share the same physical dimensions and both fit Class R holders, but they differ in performance. RK1 fuses have tighter current-limiting characteristics than RK5. The TRS50R (Class RK5) can physically fit an RK1-rated holder, but it should NOT be used as a direct replacement for a Class RK1 fuse if the application specifically requires RK1-level current limitation. The time-delay characteristic allows the TRS50R to tolerate short-duration inrush currents — such as motor starting surges or transformer magnetising inrush — without nuisance blowing, while still opening quickly under sustained overloads or short-circuit conditions.
